The August Update
Hello once again, friends of Easy Does It, here is our monthly update for August.
We are coming up on the final part of the Summer of Outreach, but we still have many events planned before the Holidays. In August, we will be participating in a presentation at the North Oakland Senior Center, UC Berkeley’s DSP Resource fair, as well as a special wheelchair repair activity with Ability Now in Oakland. We would also like to thank everyone, especially The Center for Independent Living, for their support at CRIL’s Accessibility Awareness Day Celebration. Finally, we would like to solicit your feedback regarding the development of a Social Network for personal care attendants.
See you at Lavender Seniors Lunch Bunch
Our next stop during the Summer of Outreach is the North Oakland Senior Center. On the third Friday of every month, Lavender Seniors hosts Lunch Bunch for the Senior Center's clients. In August, they were kind enough to extend an invitation to us along with Oakland Aging & Adult Services and the Oakland LGBTQ Center to host a brief presentation regarding our program. We will be there for the entirety of the Brunch to talk about our Oakland Wheelchair Repair Program with attendees. We look forward to seeing you there.
Our EventsUC Berkeley’s Disabled Students Program Resource Fair
Shortly after Lavender Seniors Brunch, we will be tabling at UC Berkeley’s Disabled Students Program Resource Fair. At the start of every fall semester, Cal students with disabilities are connected with all the resources they need during their studies. Easy Does It is proud to empower the next generation of leaders to learn as they choose.
Our EventsOur Wheelchair Repair Workshop at CRIL’s ADA Anniversary Celebration
We had an incredible time collaborating with The Center for Independent Living and Community Resources for Independent Living on a free Wheelchair Repair activity in honor of the Anniversary of the ADA. Our Teams, including the legendary “Angel of Berkeley – John Benson,” were able to help many individuals diagnose and repair issues with their mobility equipment.

A Social Network for Caregivers
In the interest of offering a solution to the ongoing struggle to find quality personal care attendants, we are exploring the creation of a social network for caregivers. This solution would allow Caregivers and the Clients who need their services to create profiles on our website and connect. Our Case Managers would be able to use this attendant matching website to better provide for our Berkeley Clients.
We are interested in hearing from you about whether you feel this social network website would be useful. If we receive positive feedback, we will move forward with development and contact survey respondents about beta testing the site when the time comes. Thank you for helping us to provide more resources to those who rely on Caregivers to maintain their independence.
